Detailed below are the planned litters for 2012. Updates will be posted as necessary.
|
Snyder's Liz x Blue Shaquille
Liz is a strong, 44-lb., black-and-white English setter. She has excellent conformation and a beautiful, blocky head. She is lofty on point and a natural backer. She has several placements in grouse trials and could be very competitive in shooting dog stakes. Liz is a strong bird-finder and was part of Jerry’s Fall 2011 grouse guiding string. She is very calm and quiet in the kennel and gets along well with other dogs. Both sire and dam (CH Magic’s Rocky Belleboa x CH Houston’s Belle) were multiple grouse champions and noted for their ability to find and point ruffed grouse.
Shaquille is as good a grouse dog as Betsy and Jerry have ever owned. He is a handsome, tri-color male with a blocky head and weighs about 54 lbs. He has an excellent nose and a strong powerful, stride that always leads to birds. He has incredible endurance and his style and loftiness on point will be the same at the end of three hours as it was at the beginning. Around the kennel, he is such a character and extremely charismatic. Any visitor—no matter whether looking at puppies or pointers—ends up in front of Shaq’s run. They are drawn to him like a magnet and he just eats it up.
Liz is expected to be bred early spring 2012.
Puppies will be $950. |

Northwoods Chardonnay X Northwoods Blue Ox
Chardonnay is a leggy, 40-lb, tri-color setter female with a beautiful head and uncommon markings. She defines style no matter if in motion or just standing in her kennel. Her loftiness on point is breathtaking—whether pointing ruffed grouse, woodcock or sharp-tails. She is a strong bird finder, naturally staunch and backs. Chardonnay has a long stride that easily carries her over the ground and a demeanor that is both exuberant and exciting.
Ox is an even-masked, orange-and-white setter that weighs a solid 52 lbs. He is powerfully built with a strong gait and tremendous endurance, in addition to being a good warm-weather dog. Oscar has tons of desire but will adapt to the cover and handle to the hunter. He is lofty and intense on point, backs and naturally retrieves. He is a strong bird finder with an exceptional nose and is a natural at pointing ruffed grouse. He has also pointed woodcock, sharp-tailed grouse, pheasants and Mearns quail. Oscar has a great disposition—calm, easy-going and sweet in the kennel but can turn it on in the field.
Chardonnay is exptected to be bred spring 2012.
Puppies will be $950.

Northwoods Chablis x Northwoods Blue Ox
Chablis was bred to Northwoods Blue Ox for the first time during early winter 2010/2011. She whelped seven puppies; six of which came back for puppy development training during the summer. Jerry and Betsy were very impressed with their instincts around game and biddability in the field. In addition, the puppies inherited the great personalities of both sire and dam. See blog posts under Litters.
Naturally, Jerry and Betsy are very excited to repeat this breeding.
Chablis is a nicely conformed, 38-lb, tri-color English setter female. She is owned by one of our clients who hunts her extensively on ruffed grouse and woodcock. He claims she is one of his best ever. Chablis is a natural—hunts hard, handles, points and is staunch. Chablis is line bred to Houston and inherited his fine qualities along with intensity and loftiness on point.

Oscar has tons of desire but will adapt to the cover and handle to the hunter. He is lofty and intense on point, backs and naturally retrieves. Northwoods Prancer x Westfall's Black Ice
This is a repeat breeding of the outstanding litter Prancer whelped in April 2011. All puppies went to serious hunters and there are ecstatic reports from all. The puppies were natural, keen, easy to train, loved to retrieve, liked the water and, best of all, were well-adjusted with happy personalities.
Prancer is a beautiful, 45-lb., dark orange-and-white pointer female with an even mask. She has a wonderful disposition, is extremely smart, has a great nose, naturally backs and retrieves to hand. She is impressive to watch with her driving, powerful stride. Prancer is a focused hunter but easy to handle and hunts at a moderate range—perfect qualities for a member of Jerry’s grouse-guiding string. She is sired by stud dog, Dashaway, and so comes by her grouse-finding ability naturally. Her dam, Fallset Fate, has produced some very nice grouse dogs.
Ice is a black-and-white, evenly marked male with beautiful brown eyes. He is a multiple shooting dog champion with a pedigree to back it up. He is out of the very successful nick—Rock Acre Blackhawk x Elhew Katie Lee. Betsy and Jerry and Betsy chose Ice based on the characteristics he is passing to his progeny—considerable natural ability in finding and pointing wild birds and lots of endurance.
Prancer is expected to be bred spring 2012.
Puppies will be $1,050. |
