Northwoods Bird Dogs has started and finished dogs for sale. These are dogs that have either been selected from the breeding program or purchased and trained at Northwoods Bird Dogs.

Blue Peace Belle

Belle is a pretty, 36 lb., orange and white English setter female with an even, dark orange mask. She is a veteran wild bird hunter with many, many hours afield. Her owner has hunter her on ruffed grouse, woodcock, pheasants, prairie chickens and sharp-tailed grouse. She is athletic, loves to retrieve and has great endurance and heat tolerance.

Belle is a focused, energetic hunter that hunts at a moderate range. She is easy to handle. She is entertaining to watch with her smooth, strong stride. Belle has a very nice disposition and loves people.

CH Can't Go Wrong x Cold Creek Pearl

Mars is a good-sized, handsome tri-color English setter male with an evenly marked head and a spot on his back. He is now seven months old and weighs 47 lbs. Mars has a nice disposition, gets along extremely well with people and other dogs and loves attention. He is calm in the kennel.

Mars has had many workouts in native bird cover. He works close and handles easily. He points pigeons and quail and has had some shot over his points. He hunts dead and carries the bird. He has traveled frequently, been on a stake-out chain and knows basic commands such as Here, Kennel and has been introduced to Whoa. He is ecollar conditioned.

Mars’ sire, Can’t Go Wrong, is a grouse champion that has produced excellent grouse dogs. His dam, Pearl, was whelped at our kennel. She is a natural bird dog and has an exceptional disposition.

Mars is current on all vaccinations and medications. His preliminary OFA radiograph reports “Good Hip Joint Conformation." He is an 'Advanced Puppy' and priced at $2,000.

Venus is an attractive, tri-color English setter female with head markings and a white body. She is now seven months old and weighs 38 lbs. She is strong and very athletic for her age. Venus has an easy-going temperament, gets along extremely well with people and other dogs and loves attention.

Northwoods BiscuitBiscuit is a tri-color English setter female with an evenly marked head, light body ticking and patches near her tail. She is now seven months old and weighs 40 lbs. Biscuit is sweet- natured, gets along extremely well with people and other dogs and loves attention. She is our classic “two-speed dog”, calm and relaxed in the kennel but full of energy and hunt in the field.

Biscuit has had many workouts in native bird cover and is a focused hunter that handles easily. She has a strong gait that is pleasing to watch in motion. She points pigeons and has had some shot over her. She hunts dead and carries the bird. Biscuit also likes to swim. She has traveled frequently, been on a stake-out chain and knows basic commands such as Here, Kennel and has been introduced to Whoa. She is ecollar conditioned.

Biscuit’s sire, Ox, is a star in our grouse guiding string and a field trial winner. He is producing easy-to-train, natural bird dogs. Many are also natural retrievers. Her dam, Chablis, is an extremely natural grouse dog…..especially for a two-year-old. Many grouse and woodcock have been shot over her staunch points.

Dogs For Sale Information
Trained dogs from Northwoods Bird Dogs are priced according to their level of development, training and potential. Listed below are specific levels and prices.

Advanced Puppies (approximately 6 months old)
Advanced Puppies at Northwoods Bird Dogs have been exposed to numerous live birds, hours of yard and field work and socialized with people and other dogs. They have been accustomed to gunfire and have had birds shot for them. They have been crate trained and have spent time on a stakeout chain. Advanced Puppies have been introduced to basic obedience. They have been raised with a consistent routine and ample exercise.

The focus has been on the development of their genetic abilities. At this age, temperament, physical build, level of desire and natural instincts can be more readily assessed. The purchase of Advanced Puppies increases the odds that they possess the qualities owners are seeking. Advanced Puppies are normally available in summer or early fall and start at $2500.

Started Dogs (approximately 12 months old)
Started Dogs have continued to develop from Advanced Puppies. They have had plentiful bird contact and had more birds shot over them. They have experienced their first season of wild bird hunting. They have been introduced to backing, encouraged to naturally retrieve and started staunchness training. Started Dogs have been introduced to obedience commands in the yard such as whoa, here and kennel and have been conditioned to low-level ecollar stimulation. Started Dogs are normally available in late spring and start at $3,500.

Gun Dogs (approximately 1 ½ - 2 years old)
Gun Dogs are ready to go hunting. They hold point until the bird is flushed, back another dog on point, stop to flush, hunt for dead birds and handle in control. Some might retrieve, either naturally or trained. Gun Dogs have completed obedience work and been finished with the ecollar. They have had at least one season of wild bird hunting. Gun Dogs are normally available in summer or early fall and start at $4,500.

Finished Grouse Dogs (3 years-of-age and up)
Northwoods Bird Dogs has Finished Grouse Dogs available occasionally. These superb dogs are the epitome of a fully trained and experienced dog for the discerning grouse hunter. Please contact us for availability and price.

Guarantee
Dogs are guaranteed to pass their OFA hip exam (score fair, good or excellent) at 24 months. They are also guaranteed against any congenital eye or hearing defects to the age of 24 months.

Buying a Dog from Northwoods Bird Dogs
Trained dogs from Northwoods Bird Dogs are occasionally available or may be ordered on a reserved basis. To reserve a trained dog, a deposit is required.

Owners who pick up their dogs at Northwoods Bird Dogs are required to pay Minnesota state sales tax. If owners are unable to pick up their dogs at the kennel, additional costs associated with airline shipping, acquisition of a health certificate and a shipping crate are incurred.
